TUTORIAL1 - STEP1
TreesDesigner - basics.
Here is the final image I'll show how to create
In this tutorial I will show you how to create a tree with falling branches
on one of its sides.
|
 |
The most important thing you should know is that tree always
grow from the center of axis (0,0,0). You should remeber this when you're
designing a tree shape with modeler. |
 |
This is a shape I designed in modeler. As you can see I moved
all poiygons on the left side (-X) to get all branches endings there. The
tree will grow from the origin of axis to points on surface of created object.
You can download this object here. Lets start TreesDesigner and see
what kind of tree we get from this object. First we should put our shape
into background layer. |
 |
OK. This is the default tree we got from this object. It is
nice ;-) but I need a tree with falling branches. We need to modify it.
If TreesDesigner panel is not visible hit 'n' for numeric panlel. TreesDesigner
uses Non-modal panel and you will see all your changes in real time (nearly).
1. We need to move 'tree center' up. Tree
center is a point from which branches will grow to your shape. Below
the tree center, branches will grow from the trunk; this is the basic
idea of tree creation. This setting has a very big influence on the tree,
you should set it first. For this tutorial set the tree center to 110%.
You should get something similar to image 1 below.
2. Next we need to check 'Falling branches'; when
it's checked, gravity has a great infuence on branches and you can bend
branches by selecting it.
3. Play a bit with gravity; you can set a negative
value to achieve a different type of tree. I set this value to 1.6.
4. If you want to have more forks at the branch
tips then near trunk use 'Quality shift'. Set its value to more then
1 to get smallest segments near branches tips and larger near trunk.

 |
When you have set all parameters and you are satisfied with your tree
you can change 'Seed' to get the same kind of tree but with different
branches. Try it.
To complete our tree we need to make some textures for it. All branches
are UV mapped so texturing is very easy. Simply make a cylindrical texture
for one branch. At the top of this texture is the end of the branch. I
made a green gradient because branches are younger at the tip.
|
 |
In texture editior select UV projection and TD_branch UV map.
Now you can freeze the tree at any resolution you want; you must
freeze it if you want to use LeavesGenerator because it isn't useful on
NURBS.
